Fraternity & Sorority Life at Texas Tech University
The Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) Office at Texas Tech serves to be a liaison between each fraternity or sorority, the University, and each fraternity or sorority’s national office. There are four councils under the Fraternity & Sorority Life umbrella: The Interfraternity Council (IFC), The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), The National Pan-Hellenic council (NPHC), & the College Panhellenic Council (CPH/Panhellenic). All four councils serve more than 5,000 students at Texas Tech, which encompasses more than 15% of the TTU student body.

Multicultural Greek Council (MGC):
The Multicultural Greek Council is the governing body of seven sororities and five fraternities that identify as culturally-based Greek organizations. Each of MGC’s fraternities and sororities identify with a multitude of different cultures. MGC promotes community service, high academic standards, multiculturalism, & unity.

MGC Showcase:
Every semester, MGC hosts a showcase, typically during the first or second week of school. This event is open to the public and is a great way for people to learn more about MGC and its organizations.

National Pan-Hellenic council (NPHC):
The National Pan-Hellenic Council is a group of nine historically African-American fraternities & sororities, sometimes called the “Divine Nine”. At Texas Tech, NPHC consists of six of the nine organizations. NPHC aims to foster cooperative actions of its members in dealing with matters of mutual concern and to promote camaraderie, academic excellence, & service to the communities they serve. Each promotes community awareness action through educational, economic, & cultural service activities.

Meet the Greeks:
Meet the Greeks is an event open to the entire Texas Tech community that occurs at the beginning of each semester. This is an opportunity for individuals to learn about the historic upbringing of NPHC organizations and see their traditions, like stepping and strolling.
How to join:
NPHC receives new members via an intentional selection recruitment style, most commonly referred to as membership intake. Below are the steps that best prepare potential new members for the intake process:
Ensure your GPA is a 2.5 or higher (some organizations require at least a 2.75)
Get involved on campus. Being in leadership positions will prepare you for membership in an NPHC organization.
Attend events & get to know the members of the organization.
Keep your resume updated and ensure it entails all relevant leadership and work experience.
Get involved in community service. Some organizations require service hours to become a member.
Be financially sound. Joining an NPHC organization is a financial commitment that requires advanced preparation.
Keep a clean reputation on and off campus.
Each NPHC organization has its own expectations for those interested in membership. Chapters host events throughout the year that are open to the campus community. If you are interested in a specific organization, it is highly encouraged that you communicate only with current members of that organization to receive additional information.
